A diminutive shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva is consisting within the compound of Yameshvara Temple, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Perhaps the temple is the only proof that the commencement of construction of the temples at that site is not so recent i.e., not from just 13th century, since the construction of this particular temple dates itself back between 6th and 7th Century CE, probably during the regnal period of the King Shree Sainabhita-II of Shailodbhava Dynasty.

Since this temple’s placement is in the corner of the compound, hence I’m pretty much sure that this temple may be one of the four shrines of a large panchayatana temple which has most probably been replaced by the present Yameshvara Temple in 13th Century CE.

This temple is towards the north-east corner and the base continues from a depth of nearly 2.5 feet The temple is tri-ratha in its plan and in elevation the bada is having three vertical divisions, by creating a triangabada. There’s an image of Devi Parvati on the front facade which is a minor figure appearing in a chaitya medallion. Two parshva devatas can be seen in this temple, one of them is Ganesha (before the attachment of Elephant Head) and Kartikeya; and the third one is missing from the niche. The temple gives a special place to a Shiva lingam within a shakti peetham.
