A polished caption, banner or product video now takes minutes to produce, and in the UAE most working-age adults have the tools. Microsoft's AI diffusion research shows that 73.3% of the UAE's working-age population had used generative AI by mid-2026, the highest share of any country it tracks.

That changes what branding is for. When every competitor can publish well-made content at the same speed, output stops being an advantage. What still sets a brand apart is harder to automate: judgement, cultural fluency, credibility that other people vouch for, and proof that brand work brings in business.

Here are nine shifts Dubai businesses are making in response.

1. From publishing more to publishing what's distinctive

Writing in Campaign Middle East, VML Dubai's Sabine Abdallah describes what scaling output with AI has produced: fast, low-impact creative that performs on short-term engagement but builds little long-term brand equity. As she argues, generative tools optimise for the average, so unguided output drifts toward the same visuals and phrases.

Let AI handle drafts and variations, but make one person accountable for the final call. Their test: does this sound like us, and could a competitor have posted it unchanged?

2. From constant polish to visible people

Cheap, perfect visuals signal less, so some brands are giving more space to what AI can't convincingly fake: a founder explaining a decision, a site engineer walking through progress, a doctor answering a common question in plain words.

For a real estate developer, a site manager's short weekly update offers buyers what a render can't: evidence that real people are accountable for the project.

3. From share of voice to share of answer

A growing share of buyers now ask AI assistants for recommendations. At the Communicate AI Conference in Dubai in September 2026, one hotel group said around a third of its bookings now begin through conversational AI search. Speakers called the new goal "share of answer", meaning the brand an assistant recommends.

Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO)Keep this in proportion. Kantar's global Media Reactions 2026 study found that only 32% of consumers use AI assistants to research brands, and just 23% trust their recommendations. is worth the investment, but as an extension of credibility you've earned elsewhere, not a substitute for it.

4. From brand claims to third-party proof

Travel and destination marketers at the same conference reported AI tools favouring reviews, editorial coverage and creator content over what a brand says about itself. Trust weighs heavily with buyers too: Edelman's 2026 Trust Barometer report on brand growth in the UAE found that 91% of UAE consumers consider trust important or critical when making a purchase.

In practice, that means:

responding to reviews
earning press coverage with something genuinely newsworthy
describing your business the same way across your website, listings and media profiles

Inconsistent descriptions can confuse customers and the AI tools that summarise you.

5. From AI translation to a bilingual brand voice

A panel on Arabic and AI at the Communicate conference concluded that AI handles every dialect but still misses the culture behind it. A literal translation of an English campaign line can be accurate and still feel foreign.

For brands serving both Arabic- and English-speaking audiences, the safer approach is to write key messages natively in each language. Use AI for first drafts, then have a fluent reviewer check tone, idiom and cultural references before publishing.

6. From broad personas to genuine relevance

Edelman's UAE findings show the biggest gap between what makes a brand relevant to consumers and what brands actually deliver is identity: whether a brand reflects who they are. That gap is 21 points.

AI can generate endless audience variants, but a stock persona in a new outfit isn't relevance. For a school, relevance might mean separate messaging for Emirati families, long-term expat residents and new arrivals comparing curricula, each built from real enquiries rather than assumptions.

7. From follower counts to credible, licensed creators

Creator marketing is shifting from reach to relevance. Kantar found that marketers planning creator investment favour micro-creators (66%) and nano-creators (61%) over macro and mega influencers.

There's also a compliance layer. Under UAE Media Council rules, anyone promoting products or services online in the UAE, paid or unpaid, needs an Advertiser Permit, although business owners promoting only their own brand are exempt. Whether creator campaigns run in-house or through a social media agency in Dubai, confirm every hired creator holds a valid permit before content goes live.

8. From engagement metrics to commercial evidence

When content is cheap, likes and impressions say less about whether brand work is paying off. Kantar also found only half of advertisers are confident they have the right balance between brand-building and performance marketing, down from 60% in 2025.

A better approach is to judge brand work by business signals:

growth in branded search
the share of leads arriving directly or organically
conversion rates on warm versus cold traffic
whether customer acquisition cost (CAC) falls as the brand becomes better known

qualified leads or acquisition costsE-commerce brands can add return on ad spend (ROAS) from returning customers. Brand activity that never shows up in deserves a harder look.

9. From "AI-powered" agencies to accountable partners

Communicate conference speakers said brands now see AI as a baseline expectation rather than a reason to pay agencies more. They want partners who will challenge weak ideas and accept outcome-based pricing.

For businesses choosing a branding agency in Dubai, new questions matter:

Which decisions does a person make, and which does AI make?
How will results be reported in leads and revenue?
Who reviews the Arabic copy?

Where to start

When content is this cheap, the better response is to invest more in judgement, not less.

Try a quick test: remove your logo from last month's posts and ask whether a customer would still know they were yours. If not, start with shifts 1 and 4.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is AI-generated content changing branding in Dubai?

It has made content fast and cheap to produce, so volume no longer sets a brand apart. Dubai businesses are putting more effort into human creative judgement, native Arabic and English messaging, reviews and earned media, visibility in AI search, and measuring brand work by leads and acquisition costs.

Is AI-generated content bad for a brand?

Not in itself. The risk comes from content published without human review or a clear point of view. That kind of content looks like everyone else's and can weaken what makes your brand recognisable.

Should Dubai businesses optimise for ChatGPT and other AI assistants?

Yes, but as an extension of existing credibility. Clear website content, consistent business information, genuine reviews and credible media coverage help with AI assistants and traditional search at the same time.

What should you look for in a branding agency in Dubai now?

Look for an agency that can explain where AI sits in its process and who signs off the final work, writes natively in Arabic and English, understands Advertiser Permit rules for creator campaigns, and agrees on success measures such as qualified leads and acquisition cost upfront.
