The monthly report shows a 5x ROAS and a falling cost per lead. Meanwhile, the sales team says half the leads never answer, and finance can't find the extra profit. Both can be true: the report measures what ad platforms can see, not what the business depends on.

Closing that gap means changing what marketing is asked to prove. Here are nine metrics worth looking beyond, and what to track instead.

1. Beyond ROAS: profit on ad spend

ROAS (revenue ÷ ad spend) ignores the cost of goods, delivery, payment fees and returns. Profit on ad spend (POAS) divides the profit left after those costs by ad spend. Definitions vary, so pick one and use it consistently.

Take a hypothetical example. A campaign spends AED 10,000 and brings in AED 40,000, a ROAS of 4. At a 25% contribution margin, that leaves AED 10,000 in profit, a POAS of 1.0: breakeven before salaries and overheads. This matters most for e-commerce and product brands with uneven margins.

2. Beyond cost per lead: cost per qualified lead

For real estate, clinics, schools and B2B firms, a lead is not a sale. An enquiry with the wrong budget or timeline costs the same as a good one.

Agree a definition of "qualified" with your sales team: reachable, within budget, ready to act. Record that status in your CRM and divide spend by qualified leads only. The cheapest leads often look very different on this measure.

3. Beyond lead volume: lead-to-sale rate

The next question is how many qualified leads became viewings, consultations, enrolments or signed contracts. Spend divided by closed deals gives you cost per closed deal.

For many UAE businesses, enquiries arrive by WhatsApp or phone rather than through forms. If those conversations aren't logged against the campaign that produced them, channels get judged on partial evidence.

4. Beyond channel CPA: blended CAC

Platform cost per acquisition counts only media spend, and only the conversions that platform claims. Blended customer acquisition cost is total marketing and sales cost (media, agency fees, tools, commissions) divided by all new customers in the period. It is often higher than platform figures, though strong organic demand can pull it lower. Either way, it is a sounder basis for pricing and hiring decisions.

5. Beyond first-purchase value: LTV:CAC

A customer who costs AED 800 to acquire and generates AED 300 profit on a first order looks like a loss. If they reorder four times a year, the picture changes. The LTV:CAC ratio compares lifetime profit (not revenue) with acquisition cost.

A ratio of 3:1 is a common rule of thumb, not a standard. Your own retention history is a better guide.

6. Beyond lifetime value: CAC payback period

Lifetime value is a projection. Payback period uses numbers you already have: CAC divided by monthly profit per customer. It shows how long cash is tied up, which makes it more reliable when retention data is limited.

7. Beyond attributed conversions: incremental lift

Attribution assigns credit for a conversion. It doesn't prove the ad caused it. Retargeting and branded search ads can get credit for customers who were already on their way.

Meta's 2026 reporting changes showed how much results depend on reporting rules:

January 2026: Meta removed its 7-day and 28-day view-through attribution windows.
March 2026: click-through attribution began requiring a link click, with likes, shares and similar interactions moved into a separate engage-through category.

Many advertisers reported lower conversion numbers without a matching change in sales.

Incrementality tests compare an exposed group with a control group that saw no ads. Google's Conversion Lift studies now need a minimum campaign budget of about USD 5,000, though the feature isn't available in every account. Avoid running tests across Ramadan or major sale periods, when baselines shift.

8. Beyond traffic and CTR: landing page conversion rate

A high click-through rate only shows interest. What happens after the click decides cost per lead:

mobile load speed
whether the page matches the ad's offer
a visible call or WhatsApp button
form length

9. Beyond platform dashboards: marketing efficiency ratio

Each platform reports its own conversions, and the claims overlap; added together, they can exceed actual sales. Marketing efficiency ratio (MER) is total revenue divided by total marketing spend, taken from finance or CRM data.

MER won't tell you which channel works. It is a reality check: if platform ROAS rises while MER stays flat, attribution is moving credit around rather than creating growth.

What this means for your reporting

All of these metrics need data from outside the ad platforms: margins, CRM stages, closed deals and repeat purchases, collected lawfully. Outside the DIFC and ADGM free zones, which have their own data protection laws, the UAE's federal Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021) makes consent the default basis for processing personal data, and some sectors, such as health, have separate rules. Take legal advice on what applies to you.

ties its work to qualified leads, revenue and acquisition costWhen you assess a performance marketing agency in Dubai, ask which of these metrics it reports, where the numbers come from, and whether platform figures are reconciled against your CRM or sales data. An agency that will agree what a qualified lead means and ask for your margins early. If it only asks for ad account logins, its reports will stay inside the dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Which performance marketing metrics matter most in 2026?

The ones that link spend to business results: profit on ad spend, cost per qualified lead, lead-to-sale rate, blended CAC, LTV:CAC, payback period, incremental lift, landing page conversion rate and marketing efficiency ratio. Clicks and platform ROAS still help optimisation but don't show profit.

Is ROAS still worth tracking?

Yes, for in-platform optimisation, but not as a profit measure. Breakeven ROAS is 1 ÷ contribution margin, so at a 25% margin you need a ROAS of 4 to break even.

What should a performance marketing agency in Dubai report?

Qualified leads, cost per qualified lead or closed deal, revenue or pipeline value, and acquisition cost, with platform data reconciled against your CRM. Reports showing only reach and clicks should prompt questions.

Why did our Meta results drop in 2026 when sales didn't?

Meta's attribution changes in January and March 2026 are a likely cause. Compare Meta's figures with your CRM or sales data, and set new reporting baselines from those dates instead of comparing directly with earlier months.

Do smaller businesses need incrementality testing?

Not always. With modest spend, a simple holdout gives an early signal: pause a campaign in one emirate or for a set period, then compare total enquiries. Avoid periods affected by Ramadan or major sales, which distort the comparison.
