Whether you've lost a car key or you're finally putting cameras on your property, the same rule applies: security work done badly can leave you worse off than before. MV Locksmiths, based at 18 Colgan Street, Cobram, has handled both kinds of job across the Murray River region since 1997. Here is what to know about automotive key replacement and CCTV installation, and what to look for in whoever does the work.

Why Automotive Key Replacement Is No Longer Simple

Most modern cars use transponder keys, which contain a chip that talks to the vehicle's immobiliser. A key that is merely cut to the right shape won't start the car unless it has also been programmed. That is why a hardware-store blank rarely solves a lost key, and why many drivers assume a dealership is their only option.

MV Locksmiths can cut and program most late model auto transponder keys, along with car remotes. For a driver who has lost a key, that means a replacement without necessarily going through a dealer.

What to Check Before Booking

Programming, not just cutting. Ask whether the locksmith programs the key to your vehicle.
Your make and year. Coverage varies, so confirm yours before you commit.
Accreditation. MV Locksmiths is a member of the Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia (MLAA) and follows its Code of Ethics.
After-hours help. Keys go missing at awkward times. MV Locksmiths runs a 24/7 emergency service with an after-hours mobile line.

CCTV Installation That Covers the Right Places

CCTV installation works as a deterrent and as evidence if something does happen. But a camera in the wrong spot, or one with poor coverage of entry points, gives false comfort. Good installation means placing cameras to cover the real vulnerabilities, such as doors, blind spots, and high-value areas, rather than wherever mounting is easiest.

CCTV and alarms sit within MV Locksmiths' High Security Services, alongside master keyed and keyed alike systems, restricted systems, access control systems, and key management software. The company works with recognised brands including Bosch, TVT, Salto, and ABUS, which is worth asking about at any installer, because the hardware you choose will be in service for years.

Questions to Ask Any CCTV Installer

Which camera and recording brands do you install?
How will you decide where cameras go?
Can the system be extended later, for example with access control or alarms?
Who do I call if something fails?

Where Keys and Cameras Meet

The two services are connected. A business that rekeys its locks, moves to a restricted key system, and adds CCTV is building layered security rather than relying on one measure. A single local provider that handles keys, locks, access control, and cameras makes that easier to plan and to maintain.

MV Locksmiths also offers lockouts, rekeying, lock repair and replacement, safes supplied, installed and opened, domestic key cutting, and a mobile workshop for on-site work.

Local Coverage

The service area includes Cobram, Barooga, Tocumwal, Berrigan, Finley, Numurkah, Jerilderie, Deniliquin, Yarrawonga, Nathalia, Mulwala, Tungamah, Corowa, Shepparton, Wangaratta, and surrounding areas, across both sides of the Victoria–New South Wales border.
