When selecting a medical school in the Caribbean, it is important to factor in more than just the name. The location of the school probably will influence the cost of living, weather and climate, transportation and housing, the need to travel to class and what it is like to be a student there.

Caribbean medical schools are located in numerous countries and islands, each one has different lifestyle, living costs, and environment. Medical school aspirants should research these places very carefully before applying, considering how comfortable they are living there for years to come.

Housing is clearly an important factor to be looked into. It would be wise for students to compare rental prices, availability, distance to the campus, utilities and transportation. Shared housing can help cut down the cost; being closer to the campus can be more convenient.

Furthermore, one should consider the expenses of everyday life. Some areas have higher costs for food, transport, electricity, the internet, health care, and other personal requirements. It is advisable for students to draw up an average expenditure for a month rather than using the tuition prices offered by a university.

On the other hand, travel requirements are another factor to consider. Many students make frequent trips between the Caribbean and the United States throughout the course of their medical schooling, often during clinical training. Anticipating these needs in advance can help with budgeting.

Additionally, students need to explore their new environment such as climate, culture, transportation, health facilities, and other community features. Because it may take some time to adapt to a new country, learning about the area before starting school might smooth the transition.
