CIRS, or Chronic Inflammatory Response SyndromeWhen someone has persistent fatigue, brain fog, headaches, sleep problems, or unexplained changes in their overall health, the cause is not always obvious. For some people, a history of living or working in a water-damaged building may be an important part of the story. This is where , may come into the conversation.

CIRS DoctorA looks beyond individual symptoms and considers the patient's environmental history, symptom patterns, medical history, and appropriate laboratory findings. At Savannah Functional Medicine, this fits within a broader functional medicine approach that considers inflammation, immune function, environmental and biotoxin exposures, nutrition, metabolism, and other potential contributors to chronic health concerns.

Understanding Mold CIRS Symptoms

Mold CIRS SymptomsThe term is commonly used when symptoms develop or persist after exposure to a water-damaged environment. Reported symptoms can involve several systems rather than appearing as one straightforward illness. Fatigue, difficulty concentrating, headaches, sleep disturbances, respiratory complaints, and changes in overall well-being may be reported.

It is important, however, not to assume that every symptom following mold exposure means CIRS. Mold and damp buildings are associated with well-established conditions such as allergic rhinitis, asthma symptoms, respiratory irritation, and hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

CIRS Symptoms Causes Treatment: A Personalized Approach

CIRS Symptoms Causes TreatmentUnderstanding requires looking at the complete clinical picture. A meaningful evaluation may begin with questions such as: Was there a history of water damage? Did symptoms begin or change after moving into a particular environment? Are there other medical conditions that could explain the symptoms?

CIRS Symptoms HLA-DRSome CIRS-focused approaches also examine inflammatory markers and genetic factors, including HLA-related testing. discussions often refer to HLA-DR/DQ genetic patterns that have been proposed as markers of susceptibility. These results should be interpreted in clinical context rather than treated as a standalone diagnosis.

Research on CIRS and its treatment is still developing, and published evidence is limited compared with more established medical conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a CIRS Doctor do?

A CIRS-focused physician evaluates symptoms alongside environmental exposure, medical history, and appropriate testing rather than relying on one symptom or laboratory result.

What are common Mold CIRS Symptoms?

People may report fatigue, cognitive difficulties, headaches, sleep problems, and other multisystem symptoms. These symptoms can have many possible causes.

Does HLA-DR diagnose CIRS?

No single genetic result should be considered a standalone diagnosis. HLA-DR findings require interpretation alongside the broader clinical picture.

Can functional medicine help investigate possible CIRS?

A functional medicine evaluation may explore environmental exposures, inflammation, immune function, nutrition, metabolism, and other potential contributors to chronic symptoms. Savannah Functional Medicine uses this broader root-cause approach when appropriate.
