Nathmal Ki Haveli was constructed during the late 19th century as the residence of Diwan Mohata Nathmal, who served as the prime minister of the former princely state of Jaisalmer.

According to traditional accounts, its construction was undertaken by two architect brothers, Hathi and Lulu, who worked independently on different sections of the building.

Interestingly, the brothers designed their respective sides without creating identical structures. This resulted in subtle architectural differences that make the haveli particularly fascinating.

Despite these variations, the completed mansion presents an impressive appearance and reflects the remarkable creativity of Jaisalmer's artisans.
