The Flavored Spirits Market comprises distilled alcoholic beverages with flavors included into the spirit base, including flavored vodka, gin, rum, whisky, brandy, liqueurs and other spirits specialty products. Data from U.S. regulators is useful as an original primary source framework as TTB defines the following flavored spirits categories: branded, gin, rum, vodka and whisky.

What are flavored spirits?

Flavored spirits are alcoholic beverages made by distillation process, in which the sensory properties of the beverage have been modified through the use of flavoring material or other flavoring materials. Depending on the spirit category and the regulations, various fruit, botanical, spice, herb, citrus, coffee, vanilla and other flavors may be used in the product. According to TTB regulations in the United States, the alcoholic beverage produced with flavoring material added to the vodka shall be called “flavored vodka” pursuant to the appropriate standard of identity.

What are the principal varieties of flavored spirits?

These spirits include flavored vodka, flavored gin, flavored rum, flavored whisky, flavored brandy, liqueurs, cordials and other spirits specialty products. The categories of flavored spirits identified in TTB’s formula approval system indicate that flavored spirits are well-established classes of distilled-spirits products.

Why is there a need for flavored spirits?

Since flavoring offers an avenue for developing distinctive products based on well-known fruit, botanicals, spice and dessert flavors through the use of pre-existing spirit platforms, product development can be done through the combination of types of spirit, flavor, sweetness, alcohol content and packaging. Corporate reports highlight the magnitude of the whole spirits industry: Diageo had $19.643 billion net sales in fiscal 2026 from its global beverages-alcoholic portfolio operations in more than 180 countries and territories.

What flavorings are used in flavored spirits?

Popular flavors include citrus fruits, berries, tropical fruits, apple, cherry, vanilla, coffee, caramel, herbs and spices. The ingredients that can be added to the product will be determined by the classification of the product and the governing bodies. Flavor manufacturers who supply alcoholic beverage producers must report to TTB on certain limited ingredients, color additives and ingredients that can affect labeling of the beverage.

How are flavored spirits regulated?

Regulation is a crucial component of the market since the addition of flavorings can alter the regulatory classification and labeling needs of the distilled spirit.
