Overview of the Fresh Dog Food Delivery Market 2026

Personalized feeding programs, minimal processing food claims, convenience, subscription models, chilled and frozen distribution channels, direct to consumer business model, veterinary nutrition, premiumization, and the penetration of fresh pet food into mass market retail are the main trends shaping the fresh dog food delivery market in 2026.

Unlike conventional dry kibble, fresh dog food is more likely to need greater care once produced.

According to Freshpet, it produces refrigerated fresh pet food using fresh meat, vegetables, and fruits, The Farmer's Dog provides personalized dog food in portions based on dogs' features, and JustFoodForDogs sells fresh dog food through direct delivery and retailing along with veterinarians.

What Are the Sizes of the Fresh Dog Food Delivery Market in 2026?

In general, government regulatory agencies do not report revenues for "fresh dog food delivery" separately, but rather classify pet food according to the laws regulating animal food products and their features.

However, one of the examples of companies' estimations is presented in the Freshpet investor presentation in August 2026. It estimated the fresh pet-food category to reach a $10 billion category over time.

What Is Fresh Dog Food?

In general, fresh dog food is dog food made from identifiable ingredients using cooking or other preservation methods, which keep its fresh-food positioning intact, and then refrigerated or frozen storage based on the formula.

Freshpet claims that its food is made from fresh meat, vegetables and fruits, and remains refrigerated until reaching the refrigerators of retailers or customers directly from the freezer delivery.

On the other hand, The Farmer's Dog explains that its original fresh food is gently cooked and pre-portioned food that is kept in the freezer prior to serving. In addition, it has introduced a new line called "Instant Fresh", which is made using low heat drying technology. This example shows that the definition of "fresh" is changing and including multiple processing and storage technologies.

Is Fresh Dog Food the Same as Raw Dog Food?

No. Fresh cooked dog food and raw pet food are not the same categories of products.

Most fresh dog food delivery companies cook their products in order to reduce the risk of microbiological contamination before storage. In case of raw pet food, the product is intentionally sold without any kind of cooking process.
