The gap between a bag that looks like your brand imagined it and one that comes back soft, cropped or the wrong colour is almost always decided before printing starts, in the artwork and the setup. Getting custom printing right the first time is mostly about a handful of decisions made in the right order, and none of them are complicated once you know they exist.

The first decision is the file. Vector artwork, supplied as AI, EPS or PDF, is made of lines and curves, so it scales to any size without losing sharpness. A pixel image, a JPG or PNG, has a fixed resolution and will print soft if it is stretched, which shows most cruelly in a small print area where every edge is on display. If your only logo file is a low-resolution image, the single most valuable step is to have it redrawn as vector before anything goes to print.

The second decision is the print area. Every bag style has a usable panel of a specific size, and a design that looks balanced on a screen can end up cramped or clipped if it does not fit that panel. Checking the print dimensions for the style you have chosen, and scaling your artwork to them, avoids the most common proofing headache. When you set up tote bags from GoPromotional with custom printing, asking for the print area of the specific style before you finalise the design saves a round of corrections and often a delay.

The third decision is colour, and it is where expectations most often slip. Screen printing is a spot-colour process, which means it pairs naturally with Pantone matching: you specify a brand colour by its Pantone reference and it comes out as that colour rather than an approximation. If your brand colour is critical, supplying the Pantone reference rather than leaving it to interpretation is the difference between your blue and a blue. Full-colour digital routes work differently and reproduce colour through mixing, so a conversation about how a specific brand shade will render is worth having up front.

The fourth decision is the method, and it has to match the fabric. A bold one or two colour logo is cheapest and crispest as a screen print on cotton, canvas or jute. Full-colour or photographic artwork wants a digital or transfer route on a natural fibre. Crucially, an all-over full-colour wrap is only honestly possible on a polyester or rPET bag, because dye-sublimation does not bond to cotton and washes out on it. Knowing this before you design saves you from artwork that the fabric cannot carry.

Colour count drives cost in screen printing, because each colour needs its own screen. This is not a reason to strip your logo back to something it is not, but it is a reason to understand that a two-colour version and a six-colour version have different setups. Many logos have a clean one or two colour form that reproduces beautifully and costs less, and it is worth checking whether yours does before defaulting to the full-colour file.

A proof is the safety net, and it should be used properly. A good supplier provides an electronic proof showing your artwork laid out on the bag before the run goes ahead. This is your chance to catch a colour that has drifted, a logo that sits too high, or a design that is larger or smaller than you pictured. Reading the proof carefully, rather than approving it on a glance, is the last cheap moment to fix something before it is printed a thousand times.

Single or double-sided is a decision worth making deliberately rather than by default. A print on both sides doubles the chances the logo is seen as the bag moves, but it also changes the cost. For a bag whose whole job is visibility, the second side can be worth it; for a subtle premium item, one clean side may be the better look. Deciding on purpose beats discovering the default after the fact.

Setup and origination are part of the first-time cost and worth understanding so the quote holds no surprises. There is typically a one-off setup per order for a print method, which is why larger runs spread that cost more thinly per bag. Asking about setup up front means the total price makes sense rather than arriving as an unexpected line, and it helps you judge whether a slightly larger run is actually better value.

Do these things in order, right file, right print area, right colour reference, right method for the fabric, a carefully read proof, and the first run tends to come back looking like what you imagined. Skip them and the corrections, delays and disappointments arrive later and cost more. If you want to see the styles and their print options before you begin, it is worth a moment to explore all the promotional bags at GoPromotional and set the artwork up to suit the bag you actually choose.
