The Japanese automobile manufacturer entered the compact SUV bandwagon pretty late in India. Offerings such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and the Hyundai Creta have already proved themselves in the Indian compact SUV market. VW Group cars are relatively newer offerings than its Korean counterparts. However, as for the Honda Elevate, the carmaker has already unveiled the SUV, while its price list is yet to be revealed.

Once launched, it will be similarly priced to its rivals. In addition to that, it might be one of the bestselling Honda cars in the segment and the country.

Moreover, according to Honda India, the deliveries of the Honda Elevate will commence somewhere in September this year.

So, if you are planning to buy a compact SUV, this upcoming vehicle might be something to wait for. But for that, you would need to know a few things about it.

Specifications

For starters, you should know that the Honda Elevate is based on Honda’s Global Small Car platform that also underpins the Honda Jazz (fourth-gen), HR-V (third-gen), and Honda City (fifth-gen).

Besides that, it will be launched with a Honda City-sourced 1.5-litre petrol engine. Having said that, the same engine output is expected. Getting into details, it will be a 1498cc, four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is tuned to churn out 119 bhp at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm of peak torque at 4300 rpm.

It will send power to the front wheels only.

It can either be had with a six-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. Moreover, during the unveiling event of the Honda Elevate, the carmaker also hinted about the hybrid version of this SUV but it has not been confirmed as of now. But one thing is tacit, if the carmaker takes out the hybrid version, the Elevate’s price will also take a jump.

As far as fuel economy is concerned, the manual version of the Honda Elevate is 15.31 km/l, while the automatic version has a mileage of 16.92 km/l. These are all ARAI-certified mileage figures. Please note that the figures mentioned here were achieved in a controlled environment. The real-world mileage figure will vary with various factors, such as the local traffic conditions, individuals’ driving styles, and the engine and transmission combination.

Brakes and Suspension

Let’s begin with the suspension setup of the Honda Elevate. It will stand on a McPherson Strut with a coil spring at the front and a torsion beam with a coil spring at the rear. Like other Honda cars, you can expect a typical Honda riding experience (comfort-oriented) from the upcoming Elevate. The braking duties are taken care of by disc-drum brakes. Furthermore, the Elevate has been engineered by keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. That said, it should be able to soak the undulations and bumps from potholes with ease.

Dimensions and Capacity

As you might have already got idea, the upcoming Honda Elevate will have similar proportions to its direct rivals. This upcoming SUV from the Japanese automotive manufacturer has a length of 4312mm, a width of 1790mm, and a height of 1650mm, and it sits on a wheelbase of 2650mm. The closest wheelbase measurement is of the Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun. These two German SUVs have a 1mm longer wheelbase than the Honda Elevate.

Moreover, the Honda Elevate’s ground clearance is rated at 220mm, which makes the SUV look taller, as a result, it gives an imposing SUV stance. In addition, that’s an impressive ride height as compared to its rivals.

It has a boot space of 458 litres, which is also pretty adequate for a car of this size. You can, of course, increase the boot space by folding down the rear seats. This SUV offers a 60:40 split seat.

Features

Before we start, it should be worth noting that the offerings mentioned here belong to the top-most variant of the Honda Elevate. Once you ingress, you will find leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a leather-wrapped gearknob, a driver armrest, etc. Further, it has cup holders (front and rear), all power windows, one-touch (down/up) (all windows), electrically adjustable ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers, an electric tailgate release, and a manual rear windshield blind.

Other features include a single-pane sunroof, footwell lights, cabin lamps (front and rear), a headlight height adjuster, a semi-digital instrument cluster (like the Honda City ZX), 12V ports, and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. The infotainment unit supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, this SUV offers a voice command, GPS navigation system, auxiliary and USB ports, and a wireless charger.

For exterior lighting, the Honda Elevate will offer LED projector headlights, automatic headlights, LED taillights, and LED DRLs.

On the safety front, Honda cars confirmed that it will also offer six airbags, an electric anti-glare IRVM, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and a reverse camera with guidance. It will also offer connected car technology in which you will have to download the concerned Honda app so that you can features like geofencing, live location, last parked location, remote AC (on/off via app), remote car (lock/unlock via app), remote sunroof (open/close via app), and Alexa connectivity.

Last but not least, the Honda Elevate also offers a Level-2 ADAS suite, which comprises adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, high beam assist, lane departure warning, and lane departure prevention.

Prices and Variants

The Honda Elevate can be had from four trims: SV, V, VX and ZX. The curated list of variants with their pricing is yet to be out.
