You've read the question three times and still can't work out what it wants. So you open a blank document, type a heading, stare at it for ten minutes, then go make a cup of tea. Sound familiar? It happens most when the brief is vague, the topic's unfamiliar, or the deadline's creeping closer than you'd like.

It's usually not about ability. A hard assignment is really several smaller jobs stacked together: figuring out what the question means, understanding what the marking criteria reward, finding decent evidence, and turning that into an argument. Split those jobs apart and the whole thing gets far less overwhelming.

Start With the Question, Not the Keyboard

Diving straight into writing feels productive, but it's a gamble misread the question and you could end up with several hundred words that never answer it.

Make the Difficulty Smaller, Not Disappear

Some coursework really is complicated you might have to wade through unfamiliar research, competing interpretations, or ideas that take a few readings to click.

The useful response isn't to wish it away, but to break the problem into decisions you can make: clarify the question, work out what the criteria reward, research against specific sub-questions, and build your argument from the evidence rather than forcing evidence to fit a conclusion you started with.

That last part matters. You might start out convinced of one interpretation, then find the evidence doesn't back it up. Changing your mind isn't wasted work it's proof you've engaged with the material instead of trying to prove a point you walked in with.
