IS 616:2017 - Plasma/LCD/LED Televisions, 32 Inch and Above

IS 616:2017 Audio, Video and Similar Electronic Apparatus – Safety Requirements This standard prescribes the safety requirements for suitable television and similar electronic apparatus. Plasma, LCD and LED TVs are built with electronic circuits, display panels, power supplies and other components that need proper protection in operation.

Television is a common household item, but it can also be found in offices, hotels, schools, colleges, entertainment centers, and commercial complexes. Product safety is an important aspect due to the connection to electrical power and the possibility of long operating times. Good design and testing can reduce the chances of electrical shock, overheating, insulation failure and other hazards.

The standard covers relevant safety aspects of audio, video and similar electronic apparatus. Safety considerations may include electrical protection, insulation, construction, temperature limits, mechanical safety and protection against possible hazards during normal and specified operating conditions depending on the product design and scope.

An important part of product compliance for manufacturers and importers is to know which BIS standard applies. Where applicable, televisions may need to be tested and meet applicable documentation and registration requirements before being placed on the Indian market where applicable BIS requirements apply.
