Jack overlock sewing machinesThey trim the edge, sew the seam and finish the fabric in a single pass, and a weak machine at this stage slows the whole production line. That is why choosing the right model matters more than most buyers expect. Among the , three models come up again and again in buyer enquiries: the E4S, the C4S and the C5S. They look similar on the shop floor, but they are built for different jobs. This guide explains where each one fits so you can decide with confidence.

Why the Right Overlock Matters

The overlock machine does three things simultaneously: it cuts the edge of the fabric, adds a seam, and wraps threads around the edge to prevent it from fraying. If done correctly, the result is a neat and flexible seam that can withstand many washes. If done poorly, the result is puckers, missing stitches, open seams, and returns. The type of machine that you choose determines the strength of the seam, how good it is at sewing various types of fabric, and how much time is spent by operators on adjusting the machine compared to the time spent working on actual sewing. Matching the machine with the product is the simplest way to ensure both the quality and the efficiency are high.

Quick Comparison

The Jack E4S is a 4-thread overlock best suited to everyday seaming and edge finishing. It works well on garments like T-shirts, innerwear and kidswear, which makes it a good fit for small to mid-sized units.

The Jack C4S is also a 4-thread overlock, but it is built for heavier daily production. It handles shirts, trousers and knit tops, and suits mid to large units that run long shifts and bulk orders.

The Jack C5S is a 5-thread safety stitch machine made for strong, stable seams. It is the better choice for joggers, jeans, workwear and uniforms, and it suits units that put durability first.

Exact configurations can vary, so always confirm the specification of the machine you are buying.

Jack E4S: The Dependable All-Rounder

The E4S is a dependable machine for sewing units, boutiques, and small workshops. It creates a beautiful finish in a four-thread overlocking style on many common materials, from lightweight cotton to stretchy knits. It is also easy to operate, which is a great bonus when training new employees or making changes throughout the week. Pick the E4S to get efficient and neat finishing at a reasonable price, without unnecessary features. This machine is suitable for businesses that prefer uncomplicated easy working over robust performance.

Jack C4S: Built for Daily Production

The C4S machine is another four-thread machine that is designed for establishments that operate on long hours and require quality and consistency throughout the day. For businesses whose orders are in hundreds or thousands, minute improvements in its performance lead to huge savings in rework. Opt for the C4S if your plant deals with large orders, a variety of textile types or predictable production pattern. It is an ideal solution for a successful business being past their basic equipment but not ready for a safety stitch.

Jack C5S: Strength Where It Counts

The C5S machine is a combination of overlocking and safety stitches, which means that it gives an overedge seam and an effective stitch line in one go. This way the seams get strengthened and made more durable, that is why this technology is used for making items that undergo real stress. Take joggers and jeans as an example. These items are being pulled and washed all the time and the standard four-thread seam might fail in the difficult places. If you care about quality or just tired of complaints, the C5S is what you need. You should also take into account the time-saving character of this machine as one process replaces two.

Match the Machine to Your Fabric

Light knits and elastic materials: Both the E4S and C4S perform well with these types of fabrics. You will need to adjust the differential feed to prevent wavy seams.
Woven textiles: The C4S succeeds at higher volumes and offers reliable results.
Heavy or strain-resistant garments: The C5S is a more dependable choice for fortitude.
Delicate or see-through textiles: Make use of the correct needle and thread, and conduct a test on a piece of fabric before every procedure.

Five Questions to Ask Before You Buy

What items do you sew most? The main product should determine the decision, not the price.
What is your production? A higher volume means you need a machine with more durable features.
How skilled are your operators? A simpler machine will save time on operator training.
What is your budget? Your budget should include not only the purchase price of a machine but also the costs for threads, needles, electricity and service.
Will genuine parts and service be available nearby? A machine without proper support is a risky investment.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Buying on price alone. A cheaper machine that fails on your main fabric costs far more in the long run.

Ignoring seam strength. Using a four-thread machine on garments that need a safety stitch leads to returns.

Skipping maintenance. Even the best machine needs regular cleaning, oiling and correct needle changes to keep performing.

Overbuying. A heavy-duty setup for a small boutique is wasted money. Start with what you need and expand as orders grow.

So, Which One Should You Choose?

E4SChoose the for dependable everyday finishing and a smaller setup.
C4SChoose the for steady, high-volume production.
C5SChoose the when seam strength and durability are non-negotiable.

If you are setting up a new unit, it often makes sense to pair these with lockstitch and interlock machines so every operation in your line is covered. And if you are still unsure, start with your product. The garment you make most often usually points straight to the right machine.
