About 18 months ago I deposited £2,000 into a casino based entirely on a "review" I found on Google. The review was glowing — 4.8 stars, detailed pros and cons, screenshots, the works. Six weeks later the site stopped processing withdrawals and disappeared.

crypto oddsThat experience sent me down a rabbit hole. I started investigating how review sites actually work, and what I found was worse than I expected.

The affiliate problem

The overwhelming majority of online casino reviews are affiliate marketing. The site earns a commission when you sign up through their link. This doesn't automatically make them dishonest — but it creates an obvious conflict of interest.

The tell-tale signs of an affiliate-first review:

Every casino is rated 4.5+ stars
The "cons" section is padded with minor complaints like "no live chat in some languages"
The review links to the casino within the first two sentences
There's no mention of withdrawal complaints or licensing issues
The site has never published a negative review

If a review site has never said anything bad about a casino, it's not a review site. It's an ad.

What real reviews look like

honest crypto casino reviewsThe I've found — and there aren't many — share certain characteristics. They mention specific issues. They acknowledge that different players want different things. They cite sources for their claims. They update when things change.

They also tend to focus on the boring but important stuff: licensing, withdrawal processing times, complaint history, terms of service red flags. Not "this casino has a nice colour scheme."

The "is [brand] legit" question

is [brand] legit crypto casinoThe most useful search query for any casino is "" combined with a forum name. This is where you find real users reporting real experiences. Reddit, Bitcointalk, and specialist gambling forums are far more reliable than review sites because the people posting have no financial incentive to lie.

That said, forums have their own biases. Some are affiliate-heavy too. Look for users with post history, and be sceptical of anyone with a referral link in their signature.

Best rated crypto casinos — the ranking problem

best rated crypto casinosEvery site has a "" list, and they're all different. That's because the rankings reflect commercial relationships, not quality.

A more useful approach is to compare across multiple sources. If a casino appears at the top of every list including ones that don't share affiliate programs, it's probably genuinely good. If it only appears on affiliate sites, that's a red flag.

Comparison resources that actually help

crypto casino comparisonA good should cover the same criteria across all platforms: withdrawal speed, KYC policy, bonus terms, game providers, licensing, and complaint history. If a comparison page is just a table of bonus amounts, it's not a comparison — it's a sales page.

My process now

Before I deposit anywhere, I do this:

Search "[brand] + scam", "[brand] + withdrawal problem", "[brand] + complaint"
Check the licensing authority — is it Curaçao, Malta, or nothing?
Look for the casino on at least three independent forums
Test with the minimum deposit and a small withdrawal
Only then scale up

trusted online casinosThe are the ones that survive this process. The ones that don't are the ones you read about in complaint threads six months later.
