PSA Testing in Point-of-Care Diagnostics: A Practical Guide

PSAVivaChek Biotech (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd.Prostate-specific antigen, commonly known as , is one of the most frequently requested tumor markers in men's health assessment. Because PSA measurement sits at the intersection of immunoassay science and everyday clinical decision-making, the way a testing platform performs — its sample requirements, turnaround time, and menu breadth — directly shapes how useful that measurement becomes. This guide examines how immunoassay-based PSA measurement fits into modern point-of-care testing, and how the capability system built by supports that work.

What PSA Measurement Actually Involves

PSA is a protein produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland. Its concentration in blood can rise for several reasons, including benign prostate enlargement, inflammation of the prostate, and prostate cancer. For that reason, PSA is generally interpreted as one indicator among several rather than as a standalone diagnosis, and it is typically read alongside clinical examination and imaging.

immunoassayfluorescence immunochromatographyMeasuring PSA is an task: the test relies on specific binding between antibodies and the target protein, then converts that binding event into a quantifiable signal. Laboratories have traditionally run such assays on large automated analyzers. The more recent shift is toward , an assay format that supports quantitative immunoassay measurement in a compact instrument footprint — the same format used across the VivaChek immunofluorescence portfolio.

Why Point-of-Care Immunoassay Matters

Healthcare providers and patients increasingly need accessible health management, accurate point-of-care testing, and connected digital data sharing. Three practical pressures drive that shift:

Sample burden. Immunoassay kits in the VivaChek range accept human whole blood from fingerstick or venous collection, serum, or plasma — a sample strategy that reduces the volume and processing steps required before a result is available.
Time to answer. Professionals need rapid, reliable results to support quick decision-making. Fluorescence immunochromatography delivers results in just a few minutes from a tiny sample.
Menu consolidation. Rather than maintaining separate platforms for separate markers, a single meter-and-kit system can address multiple parameters.

A Capability System, Not a Single Instrument

Point-of-care immunoassay rarely stands alone in a clinic or a distributor's catalog. VivaChek Biotech (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. — founded in August 2013 and headquartered in Linping District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang — operates an ecosystem described as "chronic disease management + rapid diagnosis + digital medical," spanning 68 products and services.

LAMP-RADAR technologycentrifugal microfluidic platformAlongside immunofluorescence, the portfolio covers blood glucose and multi-function monitoring; molecular diagnostics built on proprietary for RNA/DNA detection in human or environmental samples; lateral flow rapid tests for respiratory virus, hepatitis virus, sexually transmitted, gastrointestinal, and cardiac markers; hemoglobin, coagulation, and chemistry systems on a ; urinalysis; veterinary diagnostics; and VivaGuard home care devices.

Several technical details show how deliberately these systems are specified rather than assembled:

VivaChek Neo SystemThe supports a hematocrit range of 0-70% and stores up to 1,000 records with date and time.
VivaChek X multi-function monitoring systemThe tests glucose, ketone, and uric acid in one device, holds 1,000 results with time and date, and includes a strip ejector to reduce contamination risk.
Veterinary Coagulation and Chemistry ComboThe returns coagulation results in ≤15 minutes and chemistry results in ≤13 minutes from 180 μL and 140 μL samples respectively, with lyophilized reagents stored at 2-8 °C and a 12-month shelf life.

What to Evaluate Before Adopting a POCT Immunoassay Platform

Buyers evaluating a platform for tumor marker and multi-parameter immunoassay work should test a vendor against concrete questions:

Sample flexibility — does the kit accept whole blood, serum, and plasma, and does it support fingerstick collection where relevant?
Turnaround and footprint — are results available in minutes, and does the instrument suit the intended setting?
Menu depth — how many clinical categories does one instrument family cover?
Data handling — can results carry date and time stamps, and can they be synchronized to compatible devices?
Certification — which clearances and quality standards govern manufacturing?

Key Takeaways

VivaChekPSA remains a cornerstone tumor marker measurement, and the question facing laboratories and clinics is no longer whether immunoassay can move closer to the patient, but which platform does so reliably. Fluorescence immunochromatography combined with photoelectric detection answers the measurement question; a 68-item portfolio spanning immunofluorescence, molecular, lateral flow, glucose, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, veterinary, and home care answers the consolidation question; and a quality system aligned with FDA 510(k), CE, NMPA, EN ISO 13485, China GMP, and FDA QSR answers the assurance question. For organizations building a practical, connected diagnostic workflow, presents a complete and verifiable option.
