What Are Rear Window Stickers on Trucks?

Rear window stickers refer to decals or graphics applied directly to a truck's back window. They range from simple text and logos to full window designs made from perforated vinyl, which lets the driver see out while presenting a bold, eye-catching image to people outside the vehicle.

Truck owners use these stickers to express personal identity (sports teams, patriotic themes, hobbies), advertise a business (logos, contact info), or simply add visual flair (camouflage, scenic art, graphic designs). They're popular because they're easy to apply and remove without permanently altering the vehicle.

Can You Put Stickers on Your Rear Window?

Yes — in most states and countries, rear window stickers are legal as long as they don't obstruct the driver's view of the road. However, if a large sticker blocks visibility, your vehicle must have two properly functioning side mirrors to serve as an alternative for rear vision.

What's the Sticker on the Back Window Called?

Depending on style and purpose, it may go by several names:

Perforated window decal – covers the whole rear window; see-through from inside, patterned from outside.
Rear windshield sticker – typically a smaller decal.
Back glass decal – common term in the automotive accessories world.
Truck rear window graphic – custom-sized design for large pickup windows.
Business window decal – used for logos, contact details, or brand names.

Rear Window Stickers vs. Regular Stickers

Back window stickers for trucks are purpose-built for glass — larger, weatherproof, and often see-through so the driver retains visibility while the exterior design remains bold and clear. Regular stickers, on the other hand, are smaller and solid, designed for surfaces like bumpers or laptops. Because they're not made for glass, placing them on a rear window can obstruct the driver's view if they're too large or poorly positioned.

Funny Rear Window Stickers

Funny decals are designed to make passersby smile — think sarcastic one-liners, cartoon graphics, or jokes about family and pets. Popular examples include phrases like "Caution: Driver Singing Loudly" or "Don't Follow Me, I'm Lost Too."

Custom Rear Window Graphics

Custom graphics are personalized decals or wraps, often made from perforated vinyl, that let owners display business logos, patriotic art, hunting themes, sports logos, or fully original artwork — sized and trimmed exactly to their truck's window.

Current Trends in Truck Rear Window Stickers

Popular styles right now include:

Patriotic symbols and flags – a favorite among truck owners showing national pride.
Matte color palettes – simple, non-glossy finishes.
Bold statement graphics – large designs covering most of the window.
Custom size cut designs – tailored to fit varying truck window dimensions.
Graphic text – names, phrases, and short statements.

Laws and Application for Truck Window Stickers

Regulations mostly focus on driver visibility. Most states allow rear window decals as long as they don't obstruct the road view, provided side mirrors remain functional. Rules vary by state — some cap sticker size, while others (like Indiana, Virginia, and Arizona) have specific size and placement restrictions.

How to Install a Rear Window Decal

Clean the window – remove dirt, dust, and grease; make sure the glass is dry.
Position the decal – use masking tape to hold it in place if needed.
Apply from top to bottom – stick the decal gradually downward.
Smooth out bubbles – work air bubbles out in one direction.
Check visibility – confirm the decal doesn't block the driver's view.
Let it set – allow 24 hours before washing or driving through heavy rain.

Most rear window stickers are applied to the exterior of the glass for a bold, weatherproof finish — this is especially true for large or perforated vinyl graphics.
