RECD price for DG setFor organizations evaluating diesel-generator emission management, understanding the is only one part of the purchasing decision. The technology, generator compatibility, installation requirements, maintenance needs, and applicable environmental requirements are equally important when selecting an emission-control system. Diesel generators remain widely used for backup and auxiliary power across industrial facilities, commercial buildings, hospitals, institutions, infrastructure projects, and other applications. While they provide essential power continuity, diesel combustion produces exhaust containing particulate matter and other pollutants. Retrofit Emission Control Device technology offers an approach for integrating emission-control equipment with an existing DG set rather than replacing the complete generator.

What Is RECD Equipment for a Diesel Generator?

RECD stands for Retrofit Emission Control Device. It refers to emission-control equipment designed to be installed with an existing diesel generator exhaust system. Depending on its design, the equipment may use filtration, catalytic treatment, or other technologies intended to control selected components of diesel exhaust. The purpose of an RECD is not simply to act as an additional exhaust component. It needs to operate under conditions compatible with the engine and exhaust system. Factors such as exhaust temperature, gas flow, engine characteristics, operating load, and running hours can influence how an emission-control device performs. This makes technical assessment an important step before procurement. A system suitable for one DG set may not necessarily be suitable for another generator with different engine or exhaust characteristics.

Why Retrofit Emission Control Equipment Is Considered

A diesel generator can represent a significant investment, particularly when it is integrated into an established electrical and mechanical infrastructure. Replacing an operational DG set can involve equipment procurement, installation work, electrical modifications, exhaust changes, and additional project costs. Retrofit technology provides an alternative approach in applications where an existing generator remains suitable for its intended operation. An RECD can be integrated into the exhaust arrangement to support the management of selected emissions. However, retrofit installation should not be considered a universal solution for every generator. The condition of the engine, exhaust configuration, operating pattern, and technical characteristics should be assessed before selecting equipment.

Understanding the Technology Behind RECD Systems

Emission-control equipment can be designed around different treatment principles. Filtration-based systems may focus on particulate matter, while catalytic technologies can assist in controlling specific exhaust components. Some systems may combine more than one treatment mechanism. The appropriate technology depends on the pollutants being targeted and the conditions under which the generator operates. Exhaust temperature is particularly relevant for certain technologies, while exhaust flow and back-pressure characteristics also need to remain within appropriate limits.

For this reason, manufacturers should provide clear technical information about the operating range and application of their equipment. Buyers should evaluate performance information and supporting documentation rather than selecting a product based solely on general marketing claims. CPCB has published a “System and Procedure for Emission Compliance Testing of Retro-fit Emission Control Devices (RECD) for Diesel Power Generating Set Engines up to Gross Mechanical Power 800 kW,” with the procedure revised on 24 July 2023. This document provides an official reference for the testing framework specified by CPCB for the covered RECD applications.

How Generator Specifications Influence Equipment Selection

Selecting an RECD begins with understanding the generator on which it will be installed. Engine make and model, rated power, exhaust outlet dimensions, exhaust configuration, operating load, and expected running hours can all influence equipment selection. A DG set used occasionally for emergency backup may experience different exhaust conditions from a generator operating regularly in an industrial facility. Similarly, generators located in enclosed utility areas may have different installation constraints from outdoor installations. A supplier should therefore review relevant generator information before proposing an emission-control system. This helps establish whether the device is technically compatible and whether additional installation considerations need to be addressed.

Exhaust Integration and Installation Requirements

The exhaust system is an important part of an RECD installation. The device must be integrated in a way that considers exhaust temperature, gas flow, pressure conditions, vibration, pipe dimensions, available space, and maintenance access. Installation should follow the manufacturer's technical instructions and applicable safety practices. If modifications to the existing exhaust arrangement are required, those modifications should be technically evaluated before implementation. Poor integration can create unnecessary challenges. Excessive exhaust resistance, inadequate clearance, difficult service access, or unsuitable installation conditions can affect the operation and maintainability of the system. For industrial and commercial facilities, installation planning should therefore be considered alongside equipment selection rather than treated as a separate activity after procurement.

Understanding RECD Price for DG Set

When businesses search for RECD price for DG set, they may encounter different prices for systems that appear similar. This variation can result from differences in technology, generator specifications, equipment configuration, materials, installation requirements, monitoring provisions, and maintenance arrangements. The generator's specifications are therefore important when requesting a quotation. A supplier may need information about the engine, exhaust arrangement, operating conditions, and installation location before providing an appropriate price. The initial equipment cost should also be considered alongside installation, servicing, replacement components, and technical support. Evaluating the overall requirement can provide a more useful basis for comparison than focusing only on the purchase price.

Maintenance and Operational Considerations

An RECD requires appropriate maintenance after installation. The exact maintenance schedule depends on the technology, operating hours, exhaust characteristics, and manufacturer's recommendations. Inspection can help identify particulate accumulation, deposits, physical damage, unusual pressure conditions, or other issues that may influence system performance. Maintenance should also be coordinated with regular servicing of the diesel generator itself. Engine condition has a direct relationship with exhaust characteristics. Proper fuel-system maintenance, air filtration, lubrication, cooling, and general engine servicing can support stable generator operation and provide more consistent conditions for emission-control equipment. Facility managers should maintain suitable service records and follow the equipment manufacturer's recommendations for inspection and servicing.

Evaluating Suppliers and CPCB-Related Claims

CPCB approved RECD manufacturersSupplier selection requires attention to both technical capability and documentation. When comparing, buyers should request relevant technical documents, testing information, product specifications, installation guidance, and maintenance recommendations. The term “CPCB approved” should not be treated as sufficient evidence on its own. Organizations should independently verify claims and check the current official CPCB requirements applicable to their particular DG set and installation. CPCB's official website provides technical guidelines, generator-set information, and other environmental resources. Depending on the application and location, requirements or permissions from the relevant State Pollution Control Board or other competent authority may also need to be considered. Regulations and official guidance can change, so current requirements should be confirmed before purchasing or installing an RECD.

Looking Beyond the Initial Purchase

An emission-control system should be evaluated as part of the generator's complete operating environment. A low initial price may not necessarily represent the most appropriate option if the system requires extensive modifications, frequent servicing, or difficult maintenance. Technical support can also be important. Suppliers who understand generator specifications, exhaust-system integration, installation requirements, and servicing can help facility teams manage the equipment more effectively. For businesses comparing multiple RECD solutions, a complete assessment of compatibility, documentation, installation, maintenance, and operating requirements can provide a more meaningful basis for procurement.

RECD and Responsible Generator Management

RECD equipment represents one component of a broader approach to generator emission management. Regular engine servicing, appropriate loading, efficient fuel use, and timely correction of mechanical problems can contribute to consistent DG set performance. Facilities should also avoid unnecessary generator operation wherever practical. Monitoring running hours and maintaining equipment according to manufacturer recommendations can support efficient use of the generator and its emission-control system. The combination of suitable technology and responsible operation can help businesses develop a more structured approach to managing their diesel generator infrastructure.

Conclusion

RECD equipment provides a retrofit-based option for organizations seeking to manage selected emissions from existing diesel generators. Its suitability depends on several interconnected factors, including generator specifications, exhaust characteristics, operating conditions, installation requirements, technology type, and maintenance practices. Although RECD price for DG set is an important purchasing consideration, businesses should evaluate the complete technical and operational requirement before choosing a system. Comparing only the initial price may overlook installation, servicing, compatibility, and long-term support requirements. Organizations should also verify CPCB-related claims and consult current official CPCB information before finalizing an emission-control system. The applicable requirements should be assessed according to the specific generator, installation, and circumstances.
