Diesel generator sets are widely used across industries, commercial establishments, hospitals, offices, residential complexes, infrastructure projects and manufacturing facilities. They provide essential backup power when electricity from the grid is unavailable or insufficient. However, diesel combustion produces exhaust emissions, making emission management an important consideration for organisations operating DG sets.

RECD for DG set or Retrofit Emission Control DeviceA , is a technology designed to be installed on an existing diesel generator engine to control specified exhaust emissions. For businesses that already have operational generators, retrofit technology can provide an option to address emission-control requirements without automatically replacing the complete generator.

What Is RECD for DG Set?

Retrofit Emission Control DeviceRECD stands for . It is designed to control specified pollutants from the exhaust of an existing diesel engine.

Unlike a new generator emission-control configuration that is integrated during manufacturing, a retrofit device is intended to be installed on an existing DG set. This makes RECD technology relevant for organisations that want to evaluate emission-control upgrades for generators already installed at their facilities.

Why Is a DG Set RECD Device Important?

Diesel generator engines release exhaust gases when fuel is burned. Depending on engine design, operating conditions and maintenance, exhaust can contain particulate matter and gaseous pollutants.

DG set RECD deviceA suitable can be used as part of an emission-control strategy designed for the specific engine application.

For industrial users, emission management can be especially important because DG sets may be installed in manufacturing plants, warehouses, commercial buildings, hospitals, data centres and infrastructure facilities.

A retrofit solution can also be considered when the existing DG set continues to meet the organisation's operational requirements but requires an appropriate emission-control arrangement.

How Does an RECD Work?

The exact operating principle depends on the RECD technology used by the manufacturer.

Different emission-control technologies can target different exhaust pollutants. Some systems are designed around particulate reduction, while others may involve catalytic or other emission-control mechanisms.

An organisation should therefore avoid selecting an RECD simply because the generator has a particular kVA rating. Two generators with similar power ratings can have different engine designs and exhaust characteristics.

CPCB Type Approval for RECD

CPCB approved RECD for DG setThe term is widely used in online searches and product marketing. Buyers should understand the technical meaning behind such claims.

Type Approval (TA)Conformity of Production (CoP)CPCB's official RECD procedure covers and . It defines RECD types and families and explains that devices are developed and certified for already-certified DG engine families.

The procedure also indicates that the type-approval range is limited to the applicable engine family associated with the test engine.

Therefore, before buying an RECD, the customer should request supporting technical and certification documentation from the manufacturer or supplier.

Importance of Engine Compatibility

One of the most important factors when selecting an RECD is compatibility with the generator engine.

A supplier may ask for details such as:

DG set manufacturer
Engine manufacturer
Engine model
Engine family
Rated power
Manufacturing year
Exhaust configuration
Operating load
Typical operating hours
Existing emission-control equipment

This information allows the supplier to identify whether a particular RECD model is technically applicable.

RECD Compliance for Diesel Generators

RECD compliance for diesel generatorsThe phrase should be interpreted in the context of the applicable requirements for the specific generator.

There is no single technical solution that should automatically be assumed to apply to every DG set.

Requirements can depend on factors such as generator category, engine characteristics, location, applicable environmental requirements and directions issued by the relevant authorities.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change maintains official information concerning environmental notifications and emission standards, including material relating to revised emission standards for new generator sets.

Businesses should therefore verify current requirements applicable to their individual installation.

RECD Installation Service for DG Set

Installing an RECD is an engineering activity and should be performed according to the manufacturer's technical requirements.

Before installation, a technical assessment can help identify:

Exhaust pipe dimensions
Available installation space
Mounting arrangement
Exhaust flow
Back-pressure considerations
Temperature conditions
Generator operating load
Electrical/control requirements

RECD installation service for DG setA professional can include site inspection, installation, alignment, connection, commissioning and operational checks.

Why Professional Installation Matters

An exhaust system is directly connected to engine operation. Incorrect installation can affect exhaust flow and may create excessive back pressure.

For this reason, the installation should follow the product's specified technical parameters.

After installation, commissioning can be performed to confirm that the equipment is correctly integrated with the generator system.

Choosing an RECD Manufacturer in India

RECD manufacturer in IndiaBusinesses searching for an should evaluate the manufacturer on more than product price.

Important factors include:

Technical Documentation

The manufacturer should be able to provide relevant product specifications and applicable certification information.

Engine Compatibility

The supplier should be able to explain which engine families or models the RECD is designed for.

Installation Support

For industrial projects, installation and commissioning assistance can be valuable.

Maintenance Support

The supplier should explain inspection, cleaning, replacement and maintenance requirements.

After-Sales Service

Technical assistance after installation can help operators deal with maintenance or operational questions.

RECD Price for DG Set

RECD price for DG setThere is no universal .

Pricing can vary according to:

Generator capacity
Engine model
RECD technology
Device configuration
Certification requirements
Control system
Monitoring components
Installation complexity
Site conditions
Transportation
Commissioning

Therefore, buyers should provide complete DG-set information when requesting a quotation.

A low initial product price does not necessarily represent the total project cost if installation, commissioning or other components are charged separately.

Can You Buy RECD for Generator Online?

buying RECD for generators onlineBusinesses can research and enquire about RECD products online. However, should not mean purchasing a generic device without technical verification.

A better online procurement process is:

Share DG-set specifications.
Allow the supplier to check compatibility.
Request technical documentation.
Verify applicable certification information.
Request a complete quotation.
Plan professional installation.
Complete commissioning and documentation.

This approach can reduce the risk of selecting an unsuitable product.

Applications of RECD Systems

DG set pollution control RECD systemA may be considered for various applications, including:

Manufacturing plants
Hospitals
Commercial buildings
Hotels
Warehouses
Data centres
Educational institutions
Construction projects
Infrastructure facilities
Industrial plants

The suitability and regulatory requirements can differ from one installation to another.

Maintenance of RECD Systems

Like other industrial equipment, an RECD system requires proper maintenance.

Maintenance requirements depend on the technology and manufacturer specifications.

Proper engine maintenance is important because poor engine condition can affect combustion and exhaust characteristics.

What Documents Should Buyers Ask For?

Before purchasing an RECD, businesses should consider requesting:

Product datasheet
RECD model details
Applicable engine-family information
Type-approval documentation
Test-related documentation where applicable
Installation manual
Maintenance manual
Warranty details
Technical support information

The exact documentation required depends on the project and applicable requirements.

Benefits of Using Retrofit Technology

For a technically compatible application, retrofit technology can offer several practical considerations.

Existing DG Set Can Continue to Be Used

If the generator remains suitable for the organisation's operational needs, retrofit emission-control equipment can be evaluated instead of immediately replacing the complete generator.

Targeted Emission Control

The RECD is designed around specific emission-control objectives.

Potentially Lower Project Disruption

A retrofit project may involve less disruption than replacing an entire generator, depending on the installation.

Suitable for Industrial Upgrades

Existing industrial installations can evaluate retrofit options as part of their emission-management planning.

Conclusion

RECD for DG setA can be an important retrofit emission-control option for organisations operating existing diesel generators. However, choosing the correct system requires more than checking generator capacity or comparing prices.

CPCB's official procedure provides the framework for RECD type approval and conformity of production and specifically connects RECD certification with applicable DG engine families.
