Diesel generator sets remain an important backup power source for many facilities. Along with dependable electricity generation, operators increasingly need to consider exhaust-emission management.

RECD for DG setA provides a retrofit approach for compatible existing diesel generator engines. It can be considered when emission-control equipment needs to be added to an existing DG-set installation.

What Is RECD?

RECD means Retrofit Emission Control Device. The system is intended to be fitted to an existing certified engine or engine family for which the device has been developed and approved.

CPCB's procedure explains that RECDs are developed and certified for specific DG engine families, with type-approval ranges connected to applicable engine families.

This makes technical selection essential.

Benefits of RECD for DG Sets

One potential benefit of a retrofit approach is that it can allow an existing compatible DG set to be equipped with an emission-control system.

Other practical benefits may include:

Existing DG-Set Application

A retrofit device is designed for application to existing equipment within its approved range.

Emission-Control Support

The device is intended to help control specified exhaust emissions.

Application-Specific Design

RECD families are associated with particular engine families and technical characteristics.

Structured Installation

The manufacturer provides installation information to support appropriate fitting.

Maintenance Guidance

Operation and maintenance instructions help users understand how the device should be managed after installation.

How to Select a DG Set RECD Device

DG set RECD deviceSelecting the right requires more than checking the generator's kVA rating.

Users should examine:

Engine manufacturer
Engine model
Engine family
Rated power
Exhaust configuration
Applicable approval
Approved application range
Installation requirements
Maintenance instructions

A mismatch between the device and engine can affect suitability and compliance.

Installation of RECD

The installation process should be carried out according to the manufacturer's instructions.

CPCB's installation guidance requires relevant instructions to cover the specific DG-set application, approved range, required skill level, fitting procedure, and safety considerations.

RECD installation service for DG setA professional may include site assessment, engine verification, exhaust inspection, device fitting, installation checks, and operational verification.

The exact process depends on the device and DG-set configuration.

Why Professional Installation Matters

An emission-control device becomes part of the generator's exhaust system. Incorrect installation can create technical or safety problems.

Professional installation helps ensure that:

Correct equipment is selected
Manufacturer instructions are followed
Exhaust connections are properly handled
Safety requirements are considered
Installation records can be maintained
Operators receive appropriate instructions

CPCB guidance also emphasizes maintaining the DG set's safety and conformity with applicable requirements during fitting.

RECD Maintenance

Maintenance is essential after installation.

The maintenance schedule should follow the manufacturer's instructions and may involve inspection of the device, exhaust system, engine condition, and operating performance.

Operators should pay attention to:

Unusual smoke
Changes in engine performance
Exhaust leakage
Unusual noise
Abnormal temperature
Device condition
Engine maintenance requirements

A retrofit device should not be treated as a replacement for normal engine servicing.

Choosing an RECD Manufacturer in India

RECD manufacturer in IndiaAn should be evaluated based on technical capability, relevant documentation, application compatibility, installation support, and after-sales guidance.

Before ordering, customers can request:

Product technical details
Applicable approval information
Engine compatibility information
Installation instructions
Maintenance instructions
Service support details

This information can make the purchasing process more transparent.

CPCB Approved RECD Considerations

CPCB approved RECD for DG setThe phrase should be used carefully. Approval and application are connected to the specific RECD type/family and applicable engine range.

CPCB documentation describes type approval and conformity-of-production requirements for RECDs.

Therefore, customers should verify the actual approval documentation relevant to the particular product rather than relying only on general marketing statements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does RECD eliminate DG-set maintenance?

No. Normal engine and generator maintenance remains necessary.

Can RECD be installed on an old DG set?

Potentially, if the specific engine and RECD are within the applicable approved range. Compatibility must be verified.

How often should RECD be maintained?

The maintenance schedule should follow the manufacturer's instructions and the operating conditions of the generator.

What should I check before buying RECD?

Check engine model, engine family, power range, approval information, installation requirements, and maintenance documentation.

Conclusion

RECD for DG setA can support emission-control requirements for suitable existing generator applications. However, its effectiveness and suitability depend on correct selection, installation, operation, and maintenance.
