The Soju Market in 2026 is driven by domestic consumption in South Korea, diversification of products, flavors and weaker variants, premiumization, and exporting of Korean soju to other markets. Instead of syndicated market research estimates, the market can be estimated based on official customs and statistics data, disclosures from companies and international consumption of alcohol data.

What is happening in the Soju Market in 2026? Soju continues to be a unique type of alcoholic drinks of Korean origin while manufacturers try to expand the production beyond the traditional domestic market. According to Korea Customs Service, exports of soju products, including classic and fruit-flavored soju, have amounted to US$200 million in 2024, up 3.9% versus the previous year, reaching the US$200 million mark for the first time.

How large are South Korea’s soju exports? In 2024, the export of classic soju was US$104 million, whereas fruit-flavored soju and other related mixed alcoholic beverages was about US$96 million. The largest exports destination countries were the United States with 24.3%, China with 19.9%, and Japan with 19.2%.

What are the Soju Market Trends for 2026? Diversification is one of the trends. The traditional soju is coexisting with the new products such as fruit-flavored or any other flavor. Different types of alcohol content, flavors, and packaging are used by companies to match the preferences of consumers. Customs statistics indicate that the fruit-flavored soju has become a significant element of Korean exports of soju.

Who consumes soju in South Korea? Soju consumption is part of the larger market of alcoholic beverages in South Korea. According to WHO, the total alcohol consumption in the Republic of Korea was 8.48 liters of pure alcohol per adult (person aged 15+) in 2020. It is the estimate of alcohol consumption of all types of alcoholic drinks, not soju specifically.

How important is soju in the alcohol industry of South Korea? The soju is one of the traditional alcoholic drinks of the country, but today market research needs to make a distinction between the total alcohol consumption, the spirits consumption, and the soju consumption itself. WHO methodology records the alcohol based on production, importation, exportation, and sales or taxation. Total alcohol also includes the unrecorded and tourist consumption.
