The Tennis Equipment Market will be driven by increasing participation, more regular use of the sport for recreational purposes, the need for performance-focused products, and growing appeal of tennis among new demographic segments.

What Drives the Demand for Tennis Equipment in 2026?

By far the main driving force of demand is participation. In the US, the number of tennis players hit 27.3 million in 2025, marking a gain of 1.6 million from 2024 and six consecutive years of gains. Participation rose by 54% since 2019. The USTA registered 4.9 million new players in 2025, while 14.5 million individuals were defined as core players who played at least ten times per year.

What Equipment do Tennis Players Need?

Core tennis equipment starts with the racquet and the tennis ball. Other equipment needed for tennis includes tennis shoes, grips, replacement strings, racquet bags, vibration dampeners, wristbands, socks, and performance apparel.

Racquets differ depending on their head size, weight, balance, string pattern, construction, and level of play. Beginners might be interested in racquets' maneuverability and forgiveness, while for advanced players, the factors such as control, stability, swing weight, and customization are relevant. Thus, the demand for equipment becomes increasingly split based on player's.

Why Is Tennis Ball Demand Important?

Tennis balls are among the most commonly replaced items of tennis equipment, and their effectiveness is dependent on various factors, including construction, felt, pressure, and conditions in which the game is played.

There are also demands of official competitions to be considered. The world governing body of the sport, known as World Tennis, and formerly International Tennis Federation, publishes the Rules of Tennis and specifications of equipment used in the regulated competition. Its 2026 Rules of Tennis and amendments are already available, so compliance is an important factor.

In consumer terms, however, the choice will be determined by desire to have balls with consistent bounce, durability and required performance.

Are Tennis Shoes Part of the Tennis Equipment Market?

Yes. There is another equipment category for tennis that is very important because of the special shoes needed for lateral movements, stops, accelerations, and court movement in general.

It depends on the surface being used – the appropriate shoes should be different if the player uses hard courts, clay courts, or grass courts. It is important to note that consumers more and more tend to search for tennis shoes according to the court surface, durability, comfort.
