Artificial intelligence can be simply be said as the simulation of human intelligence by machines. Intelligence is a trait observed in only some living organisms.

Intelligence can be understood as the capacity of logical reasoning, emotional understanding, problem solving, imaginative thinking, self-awareness and so on.

Humans consider themselves as being paragons of this virtue as they're the only ones on Earth to possess the intelligence that have allowed them to become a space-faring species from a cave-dwelling one.

Yet we lack the complete understanding of the human brain and its workings let alone intelligence.

Yet, with our Promethean ambitions which have always propelled us to beget momentous creations.

One such creation is artificial intelligence (A.I.). Although the roots of A.I. can be traced back to antiquity, honourable mentions- Talos, the mythical Bronze giant automaton which served as the protector of the island of Crete mentioned in Pseudo-Appolodorus' Bibliotheca and the Antikythera mechanism is believed to be the first analog computer which was found on Antikythera, Greece in 1901.

But the A.I. as we know it, is because of the advancement in mathematics and technology.

Alan Turing, Claude Shanon, Norbert Wiener are considered some of the pioneers of this field. Alan Turing's computation theory described any form of computation can be described in digital form. Claude Shannon's information theory described digital signals and Norbert Wiener's cybernetics described the control and stability in electrical networks.

The interrelations of these theories suggested the possibility of the creation of an electric brain.

But recently in the 2010s, due to introduction of deep learning, when the machine learns complex processes via the use of neural networks. One example is the DALL-E program which generates photos on the basis of a given prompt.

A.I. shows promise, a promise of a new age. Another industrial revolution is at bay. This age can be better imagined as a wynorrific era. As it's just as beautiful as it is terrifying.

Artificial intelligence has multitudinal applications. Entire fields will be created because of its very existence and is being created. Such as the novel field of data science, machine learning etc.

The most notable impact of A.I. is in the Medical field. As A.I. will increase the rate of accurate diagnosis much further. Some are already being employed as assistants to doctors.

Another field is the academics, where it has already made Tsunami like waves. The arrival of Chat GPT-3 in 2020 and its replication of the complex writing process untill that year it were only humans who were known to have such skills. This changed everything. The Atlantic's article "The college essay is dead". By Stephen Marche proclaimed it with utter surance. Despite the A.I.'s potential to distort academic life, it also can be used as a utility tool to understand complex topics which cannot be understood otherwise rather than using it as a means of cheating.

But the greatest impact is going to be on the governments and their militaries. As A.I. not only allows fields towards betterment. But also it proliferates warmongering. As it creates an entire new war front, the cyberspace through which nuclear arsenals are now being operated and which is also has become the neural network of a nation in the 21st century as even a meagre confusion can be fatal and result in riots. In the age of technology, sadly misinformation is the new "Bramha Astra".

But that's not at all, the concept of technological singularity forebodingly tells us of the status quo of our world when the technological changes are irreversible and the union of man and machines is eternal. Where we know longer are the species that we used to. It is a concept that is open to interpretation.

Another concept is that of superintelligence, which tells us of the emergence of an intelligent agent capable of self-improvement cycles and advancement. Such a system is portrayed in popular culture as malevolent and anti-anthropocentric. However, it can become so due to the data bias or erroneous inputs of data by the programmers or the datapool which is called algorithm bias.

Weaponization of A.I., Abuse of technological advancements are some of the challenges presented by A.I. and its development.

But there seems to be solutions present if implemented, we may not have to live in a dystopia.

By controlling the development of A.I. and using it wisely as per to aid not to abuse human capacities.

Also freezing its development up to certain stage and developing a proper framework to understand its working concisely.

Governments should use safeguards to prevent technological unemployment to plague its citizens.

In the end, it is up to us, how do we use a tool? Whether we want to control it or let it control us.
