Regular maintenance of a DG Set RECD Device is important for maintaining its intended emission-control performance and supporting reliable generator operation. Because the device works with hot exhaust gases and particulate matter, its condition should be monitored regularly. Maintenance requirements vary according to the RECD technology, operating hours, DG load, and manufacturer's instructions.

Why Does RECD Need Maintenance?

During DG operation, exhaust gases continuously pass through the emission-control device.

Over time, components may become contaminated, restricted, damaged, or worn depending on the system.

Regular maintenance helps identify such issues early.

What Should Be Checked?

1. Exhaust Back Pressure

Back pressure should be monitored according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

An unexpected increase can indicate increased restriction in the exhaust system.

2. Exhaust Temperature

Temperature should be checked where applicable.

Changes outside the expected operating range may require investigation.

3. Exhaust Connections

Inspect joints and connections for leakage.

4. Physical Condition

Check the RECD housing, mounting arrangements, and accessible components for damage, corrosion, or unusual vibration.

5. Filter or Internal Components

Where the RECD uses filtration or other internal components, inspection and servicing should follow the manufacturer's recommended procedure.

How Often Should Maintenance Be Performed?

There is no universal maintenance interval for every RECD.

The required frequency depends on:

Technology
DG operating hours
Load conditions
Engine condition
Exhaust characteristics
Manufacturer recommendations

What Are Warning Signs?

Operators should investigate:

Increasing back pressure
Unusual exhaust temperature
Excessive smoke
Exhaust leakage
Unusual noise
Vibration
Visible component damage
Changes in DG performance

Why Are Maintenance Records Useful?

A maintenance record can include:

Inspection date
DG operating hours
Pressure readings
Temperature readings
Cleaning details
Component replacement
Problems identified
Corrective actions

These records make it easier to track the system's condition over time.

Does DG Maintenance Also Matter?

Yes.

An RECD cannot replace engine servicing. Poor engine condition can increase exhaust emissions and place additional demands on the emission-control system.

Conclusion

A DG Set RECD Device requires regular inspection and maintenance to support reliable operation and consistent emission control. Back pressure, temperature, leakage, physical condition, and relevant internal components should be monitored according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Maintaining the DG engine itself is equally important.

FAQs

1. How often should an RECD be serviced?

Follow the maintenance schedule provided by the RECD manufacturer.

2. What indicates excessive restriction?

An unexpected increase in exhaust back pressure can indicate increased restriction.

3. Can poor engine maintenance affect the RECD?

Yes. Poor combustion and engine condition can increase emissions and affect the overall system.

4. Should maintenance records be kept?

Yes. Records help track inspections, servicing, and recurring issues.

5. Can every RECD be cleaned in the same way?

No. Cleaning procedures depend on the specific technology and manufacturer.

What Maintenance Does a DG Set RECD Device Require?
